work

It's been awhile since I've posted but that's not to say nothings been going on. It's just that my activities have been so diverse that i've been feeling a bit fragmented. Since I finished my Strawbale class, I've been doing work/trade which is making it quasi-affordable for us to be up here-4 weeks of it to be specific! As far as a job goes, it was pretty wonderful. I worked about 30 hours a week on various jobs around the campus.. sometimes in the kitchen helping to prepare meals mostly of local foods, and doing dishes, other times making sure work sites were equipped for classes, tools stocked up/put away, got to build a porta-composting toilet for one the classes for a remote site. Got to dump it after one week as well (not one the better times). One job I was assigned to was helping one of the interns with a project- building a proper deck/landing and stairs to one of the Yestermorrow campus cabins. This was the coolest project by a longshot. I learned a ton, and the end product is really cool. the cabin is sited up on bedrock, so gettting up to it was really treacherous. We cantelevered a small porch and built stairs off of it that land on planks and treads that are scribed into the stone. this took us a couple of weeks but with a project like this where there's no client, time was not an issue. And for learning, that's a huge help. Anyway....back to being a student again. I'm glad.
